Problem is, in the long run DDT doesn't have the advertised effect. It'll kill 99%+ of the mosquitos. Unfortunately it also kills most of the insects that eat mosquitos and starves out anything else that eats them (bats,etc.).The few mosquitos that are left are the ones that are resistant to it, so what you have done is selectively breed for resistance to DDT, and these guys multiply fast when they don't have predators. In the meantime there's damage to birds (well documented), beneficial insects that help protect food crops, and, yes, humans, who tend to be exposed over a long period of time. DDT is hardly the most toxic to humans, but the other insecticides you need to go after resistant insects are, especially the neurotoxins.
