Hawk,

As I recall Iyad Allawi is originally from Iran and is a Shi'ia. Correct me if I am wrong about that.

"You insinuate that the US encouraged Saddam to invade Iran, only to see us hand the victory to Tehran?? This was a "plan"??"

You tell me...was it a long range plan? What has transpired is exactly what it is...the U.S. supported Saddam, armed Saddam and encouraged Saddam to attack Iran as a proxy for the U.S.'s paranoia of Iran's revolution and the overthrow of the Shah.

You could say we used Saddam, then turned against him. Perhaps if he succeeded in overthrowing the Iranian revolution, he may have been our darling, with lots of financial aid through preferred trading status and technology (non-military) transfers.

Iran had not attacked any other country and was not aggressive. You could say that the Iranians, through their revolution, were actually carrying through their own democracy and away from the West's installed government and leader.

I guess the policy is, you can have democracy as long as "we" decide who your leaders are and what you policies are?

By the way, much is made of Saddam trying to kill George Bush senior. This may well be so, but who sent Iraqis to try to kill Saddam?

George Bush senior!

Saddam was just returning the courtesy.
