One of the books I was required to read in grad school was "World Dynamics" by Forrester. It was from the days when computers were just starting to big enough that modelers were full of themselves. His model predicted the end of the world in 2032, or thereabouts, from a plague. I recall my reaction to it, which was that I would be disappointed if I weren't around long enough to observe it. I've been trying off and on to locate my copy of it for a decade or more. <g>
