Ericsson Signs ADSL Chipset Agreement With Analog Devices/Aware Inc.
A little different company news release...
STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 15, 1997-- Ericsson today announced an agreement with the US-based companies Analog Devices Inc. and Aware Inc., to use their ADSL transceiver chipset in Ericsson's new ANx modems. The agreement strengthens Ericsson's plans to manufacture interoperable ADSL modems by adopting this standards-based signal processing solution.
Ericsson's new ANx modem brings ATM to the subscriber premises equipment and its modem architecture enables operators to use the existing base of installed copper pairs in the access network to provide interactive multimedia services and high-speed Internet in a fast and cost-efficient way.
``Analog Devices and Aware have demonstrated excellent performance in their work on ADSL transceivers and the agreement supports our intention to create a mass market for ADSL,'' says Hans-Erhard Reiter, Marketing Manager and Sales at Multi-Service Access, Ericsson.
The architecture of the ADI/Aware solution gives Ericsson considerable design flexibility that ensures end-to-end interoperability between telco equipment and CPE as implementations from other semiconductor manufacturers emerge.`` said Russ Johnsen, Vice President and General Manager of Analog Devices' Communications Division. Analog Devices' AD20msp910 is a complete ANSI/ETSI standards-compliant transceiver chipset designed with their software and technology partner Aware, Inc.
Ericsson is an active member of the ADSL Forum, an independent organisation with 260 members worldwide. The forum's mission is to support the telecom industry's demand for interoperability between different ADSL-systems.
With sales of USD 1.2 billion for fiscal 1996, Analog Devices is a leading manufacturer of precision high-performance integrated circuits used in analog and digital signal processing applications. Headquartered in Norwood, Massachusetts, the company employs approximately 7,200 people worldwide.
Aware Inc., headquartered in Bedford in Massachussets, is a leader in last mile technology and products for broadband communications and high speed access to the Internet.
