I'm not sure it's destruction as much as erosion - wages don't keep pace with inflation, job growth is subpar, the economic data is cooked in dubious ways, the average family is turning more and more to credit to keep going, job security is iffy wherever you go.... It's a strong combination of anxiety producers. I am not surprised at all that broadbased polls say people aren't happy with the economy. Those polls go beyond Bush's base - and even some of them aren't happy, the NASCAR crowd living from paycheck to paycheck with no security.
