CA Nanotech Task Force to Issue Plan for $1 Trillion Industry

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 2005--California State Controller Steve Westly and Congressman Mike Honda will receive recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Nanotechnology that will outline ways to ensure California is the center of this potential $1 trillion industry. The task force's working chair, NASA Ames Research Center Director G. Scott Hubbard, will join Controller Westly and Rep. Honda in calling for action to ensure California's continued leadership in innovation.

BACKGROUND: Controller Westly and Rep. Honda created The Blue Ribbon Task Force on Nanotechnology to promote California as the national and worldwide center for nanotechnology research, development, and commercialization. Levi's, Gap and other companies are already using nanotechnology to make stain resistant clothes; L'Oreal inserts nanocapsules to deliver incredibly small particles of moisturizer deep into the skin; and, GM uses nanomaterials to
strengthen fenders.
