This board has been as quiet as Wave Systems stock for almost a year. Things are starting to happen with Trusted Computing and Wave will be making some waves. Wave gave a presentation at the annual Westergaard Smallcap Conference in NYC in November. Trusted Computing is the next Wave in computer technology and Microsoft is finally catching the wave. Microsoft Windows Vista is their latest operating system due to be released in the summer of 2006. Vista is designed for computers that are equipped with the new "trusted computing chips" Trusted computing (TC) is accomplished by a separate chip off the main board that can securely authenticate your machine and you the user using "public key infrastructure technology" I have an RSA Secure ID token that I use for secure hook ups now, it is about the size of a small pager and the secure number displayed changes every 60 seconds. I enter the number and a password to connect to the company intranet. All that will become obsolete with the new chip that does everything for you and you won't have to worry about forgetting or losing the the little pager like device. The TC chip is similar to the cable box on your TV that communicates with the cable co to let them know what programs you have paid for.
Now the good news: Wave Systems security software for computers with TC chips is already installed on 50 percent of the systems on the market. The market is still small with about 5/6% of computers having a TC chip. The forecast is for 25 million in 2005, 75 mil in 2006, 250 mil in 2010 and the numbers just keep getting bigger. Wave Systems is the only industry wide compatable product on the market. Wave has a development agreement with Mr. Softie but it has been pointed out in previous posts here that those agreements are pretty easy to come by. Having said that, Dell recently agreed to include WAVX software in their TC equipped computers. Wave will get a royalty per system but the real score is Wave will have their software in front of all the Dell computer users and like the other software included with Dell there will be lots of opportunity for Wave to sell upgrades to users. Management expects to reach positive cash flow next year and there should be enough remaining funding from their shelf registration from a few years ago to carry them through. Many think that WAVX as the early adopter has the potential to be the new standard in computers, kinda like the USB port or Serial port. WAVX is the only "pure play" in the sector and is installed in 50 percent of the machines with no clear second place competition. The other 50 percent is scattered. Maybe George Gilder was right, I don't recall his target price but as I look at my screen I see the current price at 0.72 and below on the screen is YHOO up 0.72 Misspelled words are intentional.
