"Are you saying that ANY elections (straight, crooked, whatever) were held at all is a great triumph?"
The reports I have seen are that there was a tremendous voter turnout and that it was broadly representative and from what was witnessed not corrupt. A greater turn out per capita than we even see in American Elections. Early indications seem to be that the various factions of people in Iraq are embracing a free democratic form of government and are very happy to be participating.
"That any result, whatever it is, will be something for everyone in America to feel good about?"
The results, if allowed to stand, are that the representatives chosen by the people are now empowered to lead the country forward.
Other countries, like Bulgaria, are declaring their mission in Iraq to be a success and complete based on this. The impact of this going forward could be to change the face of Middle Eastern politics and consequently the politics of the global community to be more free and democratic.
Not front page news for the NY Times, CNN, or USA today???
The only reason for a freedom loving American not to be over joyed would be because their local yokal partisan candidate doesn't score points over this success. Probably why so many left wing media outlets found this 'spying' news, so world shaking all of a sudden. First of all these allegations have been around for a long time. Secondly this document has been around for a long time. Thirdly, it is an obvious partisan spin on what is going on. Fourthly, it is politics as usual...not news. Sadly it reveals a great deal about those who jump on that type of band wagon. |
