It's one thing to say that we need a tougher security apparatus that can get the legitimate warrants it needs to justify intruding on a citizen's privacy (which is a fundamental part of liberty in the US). It's quite another to say we can't be bothered with due process, so we will elect to circumvent privacy and warrants as we see fit. We being a bunch of elected politicians and their unelected appointees who happen to be in power at the time. That is a scary threat to liberty for many of us. For others, it's Big Daddy stepping in to protect them.
