Then try it this way - what areas of your life do you consider off limits to government inspection unless they have sufficient evidence to suspect you of committing a crime?

And do you think those areas are actually immune from secret warrantless searches on the whim of a "national security official" today? That's what you would want to find out. Do you think your phone calls should be monitored without a warrant, for example?

I'm sure some good summary documents exist out there on the Web and in legal journals. Having worked for the government myself, I don't trust the people there to act outside the Constitution and judicial oversight regarding search warrants for my personal financial records, medical records, private correspondence, etc. Not under any administration, of any party.
