So rather than being a humanitarian invasion, we invaded Iraq so we could "fight them elsewhere"- namely Iraq (even though none of the terrorists were from Iraq). How pleased the Iraqis should be.

You can say anything is a "war" if you want to- but the problem is that it diminishes what real war is.

What we are really engaged in is a struggle about ideas. It's the classic and constant tug of war between liberalism (mostly in the West) and reactionary forces (in the ME as well as in the West). If freedom means anything, it means that people have to be free to choose a reactionary path if they want to- thus freedom must always contain the seeds of it's own destruction in order to be freedom. Even though freedom needs to do this, it still seems to survive.

Nothing would kill freedom more quickly, imo, than turning in to the antithesis of those islamists. If we do that, we're just totalitarian about our own POV. If we are really peddling freedom, then freedom means that people even have the ability to totally reject what we have to offer.
