I think separating a couple of points might be useful. Karen was saying that privacy and liberty are two different things. She also said that she doesn't care very much about privacy. You can care a lot about privacy (even more than liberty) without privacy becoming liberty. I also am concerned about privacy in and of itself (not as concerned as I am about liberty, but apparently more concerned than Karen is about privacy). There are certainly connections between privacy and liberty. A reduced amount of privacy enables a reduction in liberty. In fact in some situations privacy may be required in order to retain liberty. Also the type of government that cares nothing about liberty also cares nothing about your privacy from government snooping. In fact to thoroughly control you that type of government would have to make sure you don't have a great degree of privacy. So they are strongly connected, but they aren't exactly the same thing.
