These national security letters where the FBI goes fishing with no probable cause are a menace. As with all these "menaces," they are being done for a reason. Maybe that reason is idle or malicious snooping or laziness and incompetence on the part of the agents. But then again maybe there is some actual barrier and some actual necessity that I just don't have the experience to appreciate. I would like to hear from them a justification before I write off any of the practices. Until then, I cannot be certain that they have no good and valid reason and I won't blow them off.
