This spying doesn't protect Americans at all. If they found something, and there was no warrant, any Judge will throw out all evidence as "fruit of the poisoned tree".

The person would go free.

It would be my guess that any information gleaned from these warrantless intrusions of our privacy would give the gov't a place to start a more conventional investigation. I would suspect they would either "neutralize the threat", or build a case using conventional means in order to keep the secret practice under wraps.

Either way, it seems a crime of the highest magnitude has be committed against "the American People" as the Chimp so often calls us. Is this grounds for impeachment? Can the President simply say he was acting on our best interests, or a technicality of legal interpretation to escape criminal charges? (akin to saying "I forgot murder was a crime...oops, sorry").
Anyone with an informed opinion on this care to venture an opinion as to the legal repercussions the president might face?
