I'm not sure I get the connection between the election results in Bolivia and the relative safety of Venezuela. Zambia, I could see, perhaps, but Venezuela? I thought that Chavez was the guy blazing a trail for these other guys?

I think it is perhaps a slight overstatement to say that the mining stocks will be worthless in the event that a Morales victory is confirmed. However, we would have expected nothing less from our very own Minister of Subtlety (that's you, in case you are wondering)!

Nevertheless, I am certainly keeping tabs on these developments. It occurs to me that this could have a salubrious effect on the pricing of copper and gold. If you are holding a basket of stocks with geographical diversification (one of my selection criteria), then any drawdowns in my Peruvian-based plays should be more than offset by price appreciation of the others. That's the theory anyway.
