The thing that caught my eye is the part about unregulated industry in developing countries. I've bought into the idea that global warming is a clear and present danger. However, the politics of CO2 (I can't do subscripts) are gonna be sticky. IBD's editorials have struck me as the purest conservative forum this side of Rush Limbaugh. As a consequence, I find myself wincing when they champion development wherever an environmental price is not clearly determined. "Show us scientific proof", they say. Sadly usually this is done by, uhm, destructive testing.
I don't want to see a CO2 cap shoehorned into place that selectively dings the richest societies. I think if we give up coal, let's make sure China and Somalia do the same. I do hope CO2 emissions can be slowed or made into a closed loop (hemp, or something!!!) using biofuel. I see a bright future for direct-injection Diesels burning vegetable oil. If my car is a vegetarian, will its fuel lines stay clear longer? :-)
Did they acksh'ly say CO (carbon monoxide) in the article, or did the cut&paste fumble a subscript? I know, I'm being picky.
