Didn't I already say this a couple of times? I don't see HDTV changing this for a while yet since anyone who can afford it in the early years won't scrimp on their PC either. TV level resolution is probably good enough for the casual user that is the market for an Internet Appliance but not much more.

The more I think about it, the big risk for MSFT may not be any incursion from a new source like NCs as much as it may just be resistance to thrashing from the existing channel. From the hype around the time it was released, for example, one would think that every desktop in the world would surely be running it by now and yet I believe the majority are still 3.1. Some of this is underconfigured boxes, but the largest part I'm sure is just resistance to change. NT Server has grown pretty well, but NT Workstation is similarly below projection and lots of people are still back on 3.51. Likewise on the application front there are a lot of people running older versions of Office who see no compelling reason to move up.

Intel has some of this risk too, but possibly less so since more power is an attraction even when new features may not be.
