Are we defending the GDP or the country? Why does military spending have to go up with GDP?

And on your numbers, is Iraq included? I believe those numbers (huge) are not in the "normal" defence figures. Also do the "social programs" include military entitlements? You have to be careful when you quote a site with an agenda... military entitlements are military spending.
