Sorry, didn't intend to connect it with the Patriot Act. Just a further thought about privacy that popped into my head. My lack of concern re that type of privacy is tempered by cases like that where people cannot be protected in their current lives. Maybe we need private agencies that emulate the Witness Protection Program to deal with scenarios like that.

Sometimes when I'm stuck in a situation where I need to amuse myself with only my mind for a while I think about what I would do if I had to lie low for a while. Usually the fantasy involves my getting some unwanted fame and wanting to not reveal myself to the the media. Usually my solution involves contacting someone I know from SI and begging to hide out with that person for a while. I figure that's about an anonymous a friend as I could find. But the problems with just driving or flying there incognito are real. Anyway, that particular fantasy has gotten me through a couple of medical procedures...
