No need to convince me that arbitrary executive power, or arbitrary government power in general is dangerous. I started with that belief. What I'm looking more for is that the Patriot Act (and specifically the Patriot Act) allows for a great deal of arbitrary, inappropriate, unrestrained, executive power against Americans.

Not that such power coming from sources other than the Patriot act couldn't be just as bad, but if the issue at hand is the Patriot act I think the focus should be on its real or possible dangers. If other things cause equal or greater danger they should of course also be addressed but they shouldn't be presented as a danger of the Patriot act.
