You can almost count me among the converted.

In small town midwest, it is possible to buy eagles, maple leafs and krugerrands as well as some austrian coins. The dealer can sell up to 1 kg without filling out paperwork for the tax authorities. No sales tax needs to be paid.

In Germany, forging those little pieces of metal into coins or bars means that I can add 16% VAT to any purchase.
