You seem to be straddling the fence a bit, Goldie. If we take your second expressed opinion ('conception'), then that would seem to put you in the Pro-zygote, Pro-fetus, and (hopefully) Pro-baby classifications... but not in the 'Pro-sperm' camp.
If 'conception is the defining moment for you' --- so, by extension, NOT implantation --- then you would be coming down very *close* to the 'Pro-sperm' position though.
If 'conception' is defined as the *moment* sperm fertilizes ovum, prior to successful implantation or much, if any, cell division... then by rights you should *oppose* all fertilization clinics, all embrionic stem cell research, and several different forms of birth control (which seek to prevent implantation of fertilized ovum). Also, presumably, you should support pro-active or mandatory interventions to aid poor women, on the theory that while successful implantation is less then a 50% chance under most average circumstances... with poor nutrition / high stress / or other illness, it falls rapidly below even that statistical level....
But, if we look at just your *first* expressed opinion --- public policy should be based around enforced pregnancies only *after* first trimester... then you would seem to be lining up with what was the position of the Christian Church for tens of centuries, because 'end of first trimester' is roughly analogous with 'quickening'. |
