First you have to steel yourself against a barrage of accusations. Then you have to discriminate between people who are just trying to be polite and those who are obsessive in their political correctness. Leave the polite ones alone; they are your friends. (For example, if I hold the door for a woman, I do not deserve to be accused of sexism. If I say Native American instead of Indian, I'm neither a racist nor a PC obsessor.) Then, when somebody refuses to let the dance troop perform because of a Christian T-Shirt logo, you say "We refuse to wear our T-Shirt inside out, so we choose not to perform. But before we leave we want you to understand how utterly ridiculous you sound. Know that in the morning when the mayor and city council are falling all over themselves apologizing for your laughable behavior, we will get our chance. And it won't be on your little politically correct stage, it will be on national TV. I guarantee you." That's pretty much what happened. That dance troop didn't get mad, it got even. And the politically correct person who was trying to avoid offending some imaginary faction looks ridiculous.
