As long as what is taught in the science classroom is indeed science, and not mythology or religion. The line of separation between the two is fairly clear; empirical evidence and a body of research using proven scientific methods as opposed to faith. Otherwise, we'd have to include all sorts of crazy faith-based 'theories' of science.

The threat of non-belief in one of the religious authorities representing Abrahamic religions is that you will be cast out of the heavenly body of beloved faithful to burn in your misery with the non-believers. The threat of non-belief in the lab cloak cleric's belief system is that you will be cast out of the body of intelligencia who have discovered many mysteries of creation and applied them in beneficial usage; cast out to suffer in obsolete, useless, and harmful ancient traditions.

Here lies the crux of the biscuit, I believe. Those of faith seem to worry that science leads to secularism. I just don't see how people leap to that conclusion. Discovering God's mysteries through good ole traditional scientific means seems to be a very noble and worthwhile cause.
