Middle Eastern food is pretty typical Mediterranean. They don't eat pork but do eat beef, lamb, chicken and fish.

They don't eat bread like we eat, they like flat bread.

A typical Middle Eastern meal would be some cubes of meat cooked with mostly just salt and pepper, served with rice and a salad and some flat bread.

If you like spicy - I get the impression you don't - then there are spicy stews very similar to Indian food.

If you tell me what part of Fairfax, I can recommend a Middle Eastern restaurant that's not terribly expensive. We try them all. My kids, my husband, and I all are very fond of Lebanese, Persian, and Afghani cuisine.

We also eat out a lot, because otherwise they eat meat and potatoes and I am tired of cooking meat and potatoes.

They won't eat New Orleans style food -- the boys, I mean.
