And what do they have to show for it? A longnshort who hatched a nitwit scheme to take the Brooklyn Bridge apart with blow torches. They've been doing this for three years and that is all they have come up with. Ok, they wave their hands and talk about how they've foiled all these proto-terrorist attacks but they can't come up with anything but this one. If they've been foiled, why can't they tell us about them? Because the terrorists don't know they've been foiled? And that makes sense to who?

So not only do we have this massively illegal operation, it also is ineffective. But it is vital to continue it. Maybe someone is plotting to take the Statue of Liberty apart with screwdrivers. Or hijack an airliner with nail clippers. Or worse, planting flares in major metropolitan malls.
