I've built computers and I agree that picking your own components is the way to go.

You don't get the dollar savings that you used to but there's a lot to be said about researching what components..hard drive..processor...motherboard..case...power supply..case fans..video/sound cards...memory..CD/DVD RW etc. will give you the best bang for the buck, and the best stability.

When you pick your own you can be fairly sure that you've got quality parts.

I've only been messing with these things for about 10 years and my technical background is nil. Anybody can assemble a pc with some decent instructions.
