Phil > The one thing that bothers me, however, is the idea that they (Americans) would have been fully aware of the consequences of the likelihood of a Shiite majority win, and must therefore have a plan in hand, I would think.

Indeed, particularly since the US is always bleating about democracy and democratic elections -- and further -- it has done whatever it could to minimise the influence of the Sunnis and destroy any history of the Baathist Party even to the extent of not allowing Sunni candidates who were elected in the recent elections not to hold office if they had previous Baathist connections.

I have read from time to time that there is actually a covert relationship between the US/Israel and Iran. Whether this is true or in the realms of fantasy I have no way of knowing? I also came upon this blog which is written by someone called "cyte" who professes to know about the historical connections between present events and former times and which sheds a completely different light on what is happening.

>>According to "a secret mutual understanding between Iran and the U.S.," Iran is supporting the Israel-inspired American invasions provided they are limited to Arab countries. In return, Tehran is allowed to secure its "strategic interests" in Iraq and Bahrain.

There is no real hostility between Iran and Israel. Israel is "not serious about Iran." They only "dally Iran . . . about its nuclear issue."

Iran is an instrumental U.S. ally in Afghanistan and Iraq, said ex vice president of Iran Muhammad Ali Abtahi in a 2004 conference in the United Arab Emirates. This was confirmed by the chairman of the Iranian parliament in 2005.<<

And below, in the correspondence:

>>The evidence we should be focussing on is that Iran / Shiite sects collaborate with Israel.

We have the whole record of Iran-Contra to prove this collaboration. We also have Ledeen and others from that gang still playing significant roles.

Ahmadinejad's recent ploy and the Saudi girl on TV who wants to wipe out Israel are living evidence of continued collaboration.

Israel's friends are now "coming out," trying to save her shattered image, but they cannot. It's too late.<<

Also

>>I believe that the disputes and doubts will be settled by clear events unfolding before our very eyes. As Zionists become weaker and weaker, they will mobilize all their secret allies and force them to "come out" of the closet.

I think those who overdo it are not our friends. Ahmadinejad overdid it and thus obviously helped Israel by making her look like a victim under threat.<<

And there's a lot more discussion besides.
