You are making something out of nothing.

MSFT-AOL deal mainly updates the 1996 one to changes in IE
and WIN. And last time AOL's `payment' for being in WIN95
was dumping Netscape for IE. This time, it is distributing
Slate. MSN and AOL still in big competition elsewhere. e.g.
Sidewalk vs. Digital Cities (which aint doin so well) and
EXpedia, MSFT's travel service is now acknowledged leader.

And note that two weeks ago MSN announced 500% expansion of
capacity. Presumably in anticipation of demand from the huge
ad blizes to accompany lauch of IE4 on 9/30 and WIN98 in Jan.

Bob Pitchman said in Time, that "MSN isn't Microsoft's destiny".
Maybe. (MSFT looks to `digital TV' as the real mass market
opportunity). But despite that and the seeminess of RP making such comment publicly, MSN ain't going away anytime soon.

As to other `deals'. Is $400-$600K from Onsale worth doing
cartwheels?
