Jefferson,

I agree with your statements about the MAX TNT not being CO gear but tend to disagree with your view of xDSL. Check out my response to Emile (it is just before this one, #113), I am interested in your reaction.

Also, I have to differ with your view of local competition. The mechanisms are in place today for co-location to take place it is just that it is extremely costly for competitive LECs (CLECs) to do so. For instance, in Boston, NYNEX (I guess thats Bell Atlantic now) is charging a CLEC $55,000 for the construction of a 10'x10' cage in a NYNEX CO. They are also charging $1500 a month rent (yes $1500 a month for 100 square feet) plus $12-14 per month per loop. The high constuction and rent costs are forcing some CLECs to look outside the CO for space, such as a nearby hotel or restaurant that might rent some space much cheaper.

Even with these high costs there are facilities based CLECs showing up in the area such as Worldcom, MCI and Teleport as well as some new players like HarvardNet and VITTS. Also, in Boston, RCN is offering competitive service via a wholesale agreement with NYNEX with an intent to build later.

I believe that all of these CLECs will need to offer some differentiating service via the loops that they lease (POTS isn't going to cut it) and I think that IDSL is an excellent opportunity for them in the near term.

Regards,

Bill
