Hi Joan, The fact is that a P/E is a P/E, with a strict definition and only one correct answer. I think the established information vendors are publishing the correct one. How do you know other companies aren't doing similar things when it comes to publishing their earnings? As for Microsoft's supposedly "investor-friendly" accounting techniques, the way I see it is that it's covering up the holes in the ship, and investors who buy into such techniques aren't going to see the downside until it's too late.
