China is only slowly allowing their internal economy to improve. They are intentionally giving away imminence value of production to manage the rate of improvement of the lives of their citizens. This is intended to keep control for the Communist party. Explosive growth would cause turmoil and virtually guarantee some form of democracy emerging.

They are also using the absolute control to grow their military at alarming rates. Within twenty years they may have a larger and more capable military than the US. If you read the article I posted today about de Toqueville, you will see why we would not defend Taiwan when that day comes.
