Digital Rights and Wrongs

Google's intent to digitize millions of library books and make them searchable on the Web thrust the intellectual property battle into the headlines. Authors and publishers sued Google after the Internet search giant tested the limits of copyright law by pursuing its digital library project. Globally, the battle to protect intellectual property such as movies, music, software and books is expected to grow as technology makes it easier to share such content. And a U.S. Supreme Court decision in July that effectively shut down music file-sharing pioneer Grokster could not erase the flood of digital content still swirling in cyberspace.
