She didn't win the Indianapolis 500, but Danica Patrick did become the first woman to lead at least one lap in the race, and she was in contention nearly to the end. The burgeoning stardom of the 23-year-old driver was good news for the languishing Indy circuit, which has been lapped by the far more popular NASCAR. Television ratings for the race soared 40 percent, the highest since 1997. The winner, by the way, was Briton Dan Wheldon.
