A book, not a wine, which should be very interesting to anyone with an amateur's interest in wine.

George Taber was a Time reporter asigned to Paris (tough job, someone had to do it) who, through a stroke of luck, was the only journalist present when a blind tasting of California's and France's best wines took place in 1976. The tasters were the elite of the French wine world. California bested the French. The event rocked the wine world and set the stage for the current globalization of wine production.

Very readable, very interesting, and a good tour of the politics of wine. It also gives a basic description of how wine is made, something I knew little about.

Highly recommended.
