The key proponents are persons who are absolutely convinced that there is enough evidence to support ID that it has a legitimate place in the classroom where origins are discussed.

The large body of mainstream believers can see that adaptation as an observable science is legitimate, and that scientific method is the most practical idea for developing useful and adaptive mechanisms to help the societies of the world. They also believe in an eternal and infinite existence that includes pre-life and an after life of some sort... or at least accept the plausibility of such things.

So, you may ask, why does this large body of mainstream believers not squelch the idea of ID. The answer is, as I positioned it for you before. Most people are convinced that it is a forced choice: Either we must accept that the origin of the universe and life is scientifically valid according to theories of evolution or it is explainable by ID.

You are very much like this mainstream body, in that you are fighting to have an evolutionary explanation of origins in the curriculum, even though you can not justify that scientifically. You do this because you are afraid that the alternative would force everyone to accept ID.
