Starting next year ADSL equipment will be in the about same price range as ISDN equipment. I think a major reason for the lack of success of IDSL is that it is squeezed by 56K analog modems on the low end and SDSL, HDSL and ADSL on the high end. Why bother with 128 kbit if you can get up to 8 Mbit for just a few dollars more? If people don't change their surfing habits there will be no problems with backbone bandwith. People will just wait less for the few megabytes of information that they consume per hour. If high bandwith services like video get popular we will need serious backbone upgrades but IDSL would not work acceptably with those services.
