I mean empire literally. A country that has its armed forces stationed in 144 countries or territories has to be called an empire. Any other term would not do it justice especially as the forces are not under local command and show very little if any respect for the sovereign laws of the host country as evidenced by the CIA abductions in Europe.

As to technological superiority, I personally don't think that's significant anymore with the notable exception of the war machine.
