Standards of living, especially for the poor and middle class, are falling drastically. Religious fanaticism is taking the place of education and this adds to the fervor for the War on Terrorism and similar delights. Just like in historic Rome where the masses were entertained by throwing Christians to the lions, today it's Muslims. Even Hollywood can't match the circus provided by religion as box-office takings fall all the time. It's Apocalypse Now, in real live technicolor, or haven't you heard? > They are among those begging at traffic lights. Others offer to tell a joke for 20p. I have them coming to my door all the time -- there are no jokes and I wish I could get away with 20p. It's $5 to $10 US (R20- R50) a time or they don't go away.
