The proliferation of the home decorating, home remodelling, home building channels and publications has fueled the fire for the housing bubble to rise on. On any given evening there are 100's of shows making people feel their home is inadequate if they do not have granite countertops, stone or hard wood floors, the latest kitchen gizmo, the "designer" dishwasher, etc. Lots of trading up shows as well, always with young homebuyers in their new 3500 sq ft home.

Starter home has taken on a whole new dimension. I am betting on a general resizing of households in the next 20 years. Fabulous large homes built early in the 20th century were eventually razed and the lots subdivided in the mid century. These homes have been razed in the past few years with large homes with a heavy footprint. Big Foots will give way eventually to a more reasonably sized home to reflect conservation of assets, both real and intangible.

This is what the reurbanization of small towns is all about.
