Now that is doable with the technology we have. And there has been some work done in that area, although most of the effort seems to be going towards projecting virtual screens in the air. Which has a down side, the brightness is compromised so most existing schemes only operate in a darkened room. Direct retinal projections wouldn't have that problem.
