So he is convinced that because we invaded Iraq, Saddam must have been involved- and because he was involved, our invasion was justified. So if he figures out Saddam wasn't involved, will he begin to be upset about the invasion?

That IS interesting. Has he read about Saddam? Does he know how antithetical Saddam's interests were to many of the little AQ type groups? Saddam was opportunistically "religious" but hardly interested in a really Mullahocracy (because that would have been a diminishment of Saddam's power- and Saddam's power was almost the foremost concern for Saddam.)
