Another comment, this time as a builder myself. All of the developments that I see going up, and I get around a bit, are made of cheap materials. Cheap Canadian hemlock lumber that warps and rots, particle board subfloor and cabinets and trim, wood chip (OSB) sheathing, sawdust-based cement board siding, fake brick and stone, plastic plumbing. These places will not likely last long enought to justify a thirty year mortgage. No one is going to inherit these dwellings, they are junk before they are finished.
