I dumped cable years ago, when they tried to hike the price from $11 to $17/month and introduced ads.

I get 30 channels OTA from my old antenna, most in 1080i - tho' channel 7 is 720p. Now if only CBS did everything in 16:9.

I would be quite happy to have a TIVO setup that I could burn the odd show onto DVD. I have little interest in Blu-Ray/HD-DVD if they are going to introduce copy restriction and would go for an EVD type of copy (MPEG4, Ogg sound). The only interest I have for Blu-Ray/HD-DVD is renting videos but that's not a high priority as we enjoy regular DVD video well enough even if it is only 480 lines.

In all I see my future as a living room PC - anything else is too inflexible. The only processors with the horsepower and the cool-running are AMD. I believe I am not alone in my conclusions and that hardware will shift to software in home entertainment.

Once you have a HD TV and wireless and a living room PC the opportunities are enormous. My wife moans about - and cannot drive - the 4 remotes on the coffee table. With a living room PC I can dump all those. Then there's everything else that is too complicated to be driven by buttons - sprinkler system; bedside alarm; oven and on and on. Could this be the end of the flashing 12:00AM on VCRs?

Oh how I want a sprinkler controller I can set from the TV as I review the weather over the internet - better still a weather channel "push" system to turn it off as storms arrive.

Industry has been very slow to see the potential of wireless networking. I don't think there are many people around here under the age of 55 that don't have a wireless router in their home (certainly not from netstumbler scans I have done).
