Track a terrorist, or just a troublesome teenager

By Mark Baard | January 2, 2006

Security - We hope you didn't finish the previous year bailing your teenager out of the pokey after a wild New Year's party. But if you did, why not start 2006 as more than a parent? Be a well-equipped spy, too.

The Cyber Tracker is a clever way to bust your clueless rebel as he races his car to the beach after midnight. Just toss the sturdy, tamper-proof Cyber Tracker -- it's 1 by 5 by 5 inches -- in the back of the car before he leaves, and then track him from your PC at home.

The Cyber Tracker will send alerts to your mobile phone or Blackberry if your teenager is driving too fast, or has been parked too long at Inspiration Point.

Cyber Tracker's maker, Homeland Integrated Security Systems Inc., is one of many firms cashing in on the national security craze. But HISS is among the few marketing a sophisticated product both as a tool for securing the homeland (through tracking of commercial vehicles), and for tracking members of one's own family. The company will be showing off the Cyber Tracker this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. You can also use Cyber Tracker to make certain areas off-limits to your wayward motorist. The device will send you an alert if the geo-fence boundaries you designate are breached, and allow you to boom out a ''voice of God" warning through its built-in speaker.
