The only comment I hear so far from media sources was that the traders were looking for a reason to buy. This would indeed suggest that the pattern will continue for some days or weeks.
Oh yes, the inverted yield curve probably triggered programmed selling which made all investors nervous.
There was supposed to be a Santa Clause rally based on year-end bonus. But maybe the bonuses had to pay for higher consumer costs or anticipated costs of energy.
The more I reflect on it, the more obvious it was that there was not going to be a year-end rally. The CNBC prognostication for it was just standard hype.
