"As bad as it is, our government is better than most of the nations in the world." Arguably we are still a cut above the average (though the average has been rising some with the spread of Democracy and rule of law...), so our 'edge' has been reduced some. We shouldn't be measuring ourselves against 'how bad the rest of the world is' though... rather, we should measure how close we come to fulfilling the promise of our founding, how close we come to achieving freedom and liberty and justice and prosperity.
