2 Said Killed in U.S. Copter Crash in Iraq

BAQOUBA, Iraq - A U.S. helicopter was reported to have crashed northeast of Baghdad Tuesday, and Iraqi police said two U.S. personnel had been killed. U.S. forces cordoned off the area and were looking for the helicopter, a U.S. official said.

The Diyala police said that a U.S. helicopter had crashed or been shot down near the village of Jezani al-Chol, about 15 miles east of Baqouba, which is 35 miles northeast of Baghdad.

The joint coordination center of the Diyala police also said that two U.S. soldiers had been killed.

Maj. Steve Warren, a spokesman for the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, said U.S. officials had received the report from the Diyala police and were looking for the helicopter.

An Associated Press reporter trying to reach Jezani al-Chol was turned back by U.S. troops who had cordoned off the area.
