NYT Reporter James Risen on the Today Show this morning, interviewed by Katie Couric:

The NSA story is a "classic whistleblower case." Also, publication of the article was "a great public service."

Let's see if he feels the same way when he's facing civil contempt and jail if he refuses to give up his source.

Whistleblowers aren't annointed to decide they have the authority to leak highly classified information.
