I think I know what "value" is... To measure it I neither ask a lawyer, not check market prices, especially if those prices are depressed by (say) hedge shorting. ( Right now I'm making a killing on a stock whose Convertible Debenture has been called for redemption; this may be the other side of "avoid convertibles for their prices may be depressed by shorting".
